The Seeds We Leave Behind
I often find myself running in so many directions: family, friends, ministry, work... As we approach another busy season, I can already feel the pull. There’s always more to do, more people to care for, more needs to meet. And in the quiet moments, I catch myself wondering, Am I doing enough?
When I look at the life of Jesus, I’m reminded that He faced full days, too. Crowds followed Him everywhere, yet He never hurried when showing love. He always made time for the one in front of Him: the blind man calling from the roadside, the woman reaching for His robe, the disciples who needed His patience, etc. Jesus didn’t measure His days by how much He accomplished but by how deeply He loved.
That challenges me. Because ministry isn’t always about doing more. It’s about slowing down enough to love well. Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is to stop and notice: invite someone for coffee; call the brother or sister we haven’t seen in church lately; send that text of encouragement; stop and pray with someone instead of just saying we will... These small moments might not look like much, but they’re the kind of seeds Jesus uses to grow His Kingdom.
And in the middle of it all, I hear the gentle reminder from Psalm 46:10, “...Be still, and know that I am God..." It’s in the stillness that I find His peace again. When I slow down long enough, I remember who’s in control and whose agenda truly matters.
As we approach this busy season and life fills up with family schedules, holiday festivities, ministry plans, and work deadlines, let’s remember what matters most. Every act of love, no matter how small, carries eternal weight when done in His name. You don’t have to do it all. You just have to walk closely, planting seeds with Jesus. He’ll take care of the growing.
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
