A Word for Our Arbor Family

Many of us deal with doubt in our walk as Christians. I love this definition: Doubt is a mental state in which the mind remains suspended between two or more contradictory propositions, and is uncertain about them. Doubt on an emotional level is indecision between belief and disbelief. It may involve uncertainty, distrust, or lack of conviction on certain facts, actions, motives, or decisions. This reminds me...

Have you ever felt stuck between two things that are totally contradictory? Like feeling sick in your body, but declaring what the word of God says in 1 Peter 2:24, "He himself [Jesus] bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed."

What about Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."? "But," your wondering, "did Paul really mean ALL?" because your current situation seems too much for you to handle. The problem with doubt is that it causes us to not believe our God is who He says He is, or that He will do what He says He will do. The beautiful thing about our Lord is that He knows us and He knows that we will have those times when we have to fight for our faith.

In Mark 9, a father brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus and His disciples. The father explained that a spirit had robbed his son of his speech. It seized him and was throwing him to the ground. Many times, it threw him into the fire or water trying to kill him (Mark 9:17-24). What’s interesting about this story is that the father had already gone to the disciples to get help for his son and they could not cast the spirit out. But that father didn’t give up. As soon as he saw Jesus, the father begged Jesus to help his son. Jesus explained that everything is possible for those who believe. Immediately the boy’s father said, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

If you find yourself uncertain or having a hard time believing, it's ok to go to Jesus and say HELP MY UNBELIEF! Because that father didn't give up, even in the face of doubt, his son was healed. In this story, we also discovered that some things require prayer and fasting. Be encouraged as we push towards the end of 21 days of prayer and fasting, your breakthrough is right around the corner.
